Forecasting & bottleneck detection

Know when every order will finish, and what could hold it up

Epifor forecasts a realistic completion date for every job and manufacturing order from your live finite schedule, and flags the resource that limits your throughput before it turns a promise into a late order. Your dates stay honest and your floor stays balanced.

Epifor's Forecasting and Bottleneck Detection view tells you when each order will finish and where it will get stuck, using the real capacity, measured times, and live progress from your floor. You reschedule and the completion dates move with you. When a resource is about to become the constraint, it stands out, so you can rebalance before the date slips.

Forecasting of order completion date

See the finish before you commit.

Reschedule and Epifor recalculates each order's completion date on the spot, against finite capacity and the times measured on your floor.

Live completion dates
Reschedule by drag and drop and each order's finish date updates against real capacity
Test before you promise
See the effect of a sequence or priority change on the dates before you commit to it
Built on real times
Forecasts use measured cycle times and live progress, not estimates

Bottleneck Detection

Find the constraint before it makes you late.

Epifor shows the resource that caps your throughput, flagged against the schedule. Spot it, rebalance the load, and clear the jam before it becomes a missed delivery.

Frequently asked questions

Q.01What is order completion date forecasting?
It is projecting when each order will actually finish, based on the real capacity and times on your floor. In Epifor, the date comes from your live finite schedule inside the shop floor management system, so it reflects the hours you truly have, not an optimistic estimate.
Q.02How does Epifor forecast a completion date?
When you schedule or reschedule an order, Epifor places it against finite capacity and the measured cycle times it has learned on your floor, then reads off the finish date. Change the sequence or a resource's hours and the date moves with you, so you can test a promise before you make it.
Q.03Does the completion date update as the job runs?
Yes. Epifor reads live progress from the floor, so as work is reported the forecast adjusts. If a job runs ahead or falls behind, its completion date reflects it, and so does anything scheduled after it.
Q.04What is a bottleneck, and how do I find it?
A bottleneck is the resource that limits how much your floor can produce, the station everything else waits on. Epifor flags it on the schedule by showing each resource against its capacity, so the constraint stands out and you can act on it before it holds up an order.
Q.05What is the difference between finite and infinite forecasting?
Infinite forecasting assumes resources are always available, which is why the dates look good on paper and slip in reality. Finite forecasting loads each resource only up to the hours it truly has. Epifor forecasts finite, so the completion date is one you can commit to.
Q.06Are the forecasts based on real times?
Yes. Epifor uses the measured cycle times it learns on your floor and live job progress, so the load behind every date reflects how long work actually takes and how far along it already is, not a fixed standard.
Q.07Doesn't my ERP already give me completion dates?
Most ERP and MRP systems calculate dates with infinite-capacity logic, which is right for purchasing but not for the floor. Epifor adds the finite, shop-floor forecast on top, built from real availability and real times, and hands the dates and progress back to your ERP. It complements your ERP rather than replacing it.
Q.08How does fixing a bottleneck change my completion dates?
When you rebalance work off a constrained resource or add hours to it, Epifor runs the forecast again and the affected completion dates update immediately. You can see the effect of a change before you make it, so you protect the promise instead of discovering the slip later.
